چکیده

We have isolated an enzyme, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (EC 4.3.1.5.), from the rootlets of Zea mays var. СЕ-IV. After partial purification by fractional salting out with ammonium sulfate and gel chromatography on Sephadex G-100, we obtained a preparation of a 40-fold greater specific activity than that of the crude homogenate. We hbve determined the ap parent Michaelis constant and the activation energy of this purified pre paration and investigated the effect of some phenolic compounds on its activity.

Effects of Glyphosate on Metabolism of Phenolic Compounds I. Induction of Phenylalanine Ammonia-lyase Activity in Dark-grown Maize Roots

The herbicide glyphosate, N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine, induced phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) activity in the roots of dark-grown maize seedlings. This enzyme induction was shown to precede glyphosate-reduced fresh weight gain in the roots by 24--48 h. Feeding aromatic amino acids with glyphosate further inhibited growth while slightly lowering glyphosate-enhanced PAL activity. Soluble protei...

Responses of growth and antioxidative enzymes to various concentrations of nickel in Zea mays leaves and roots. Fatemeh Ghasemi*, Reza Heidari, Rashid Jameii and Latifeh Purakbar

To assess nickel-induced toxicity in plants, Zea mays seeds were germinated and cultured on nutrient solution with nickel concentrations of 50-200 μM for a period of two weeks. Observed biological makers included biomass, soluble and total protein contents, and the activities of guaiacol peroxidase (GPX), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) in the l...

Root Growth and Enzymes Related to the Lignification of Maize Seedlings Exposed to the Allelochemical L-DOPA

L-3,4-Dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) is a known allelochemical exuded from the roots of velvet bean (Mucuna pruriens L. Fabaceae). In the current work, we analyzed the effects of L-DOPA on the growth, the activities of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), tyrosine ammonia-lyase (TAL), and peroxidase (POD), and the contents of phenylalanine, tyrosine, and lignin in maize (Zea mays) roots. Three-d...

Effects of Some Amino Acids and Organic Acids on Enzymatic Activity and Longevity of Dianthus caryophyllus cv. Tessino at Pre-Harvest Stage

Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) is one of the most important cut flowers in the world. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of pre-harvest application of some amino acids and organic acids on enzymatic traits and longevity of carnation flowers (Dianthus caryophyllus cv. Tessino) based on completely randomized design with 13 treatments and three...
